The World Needs Re-exploring

Itchy feet already!

Well I’ve just sat down at the computer with a nice cup of tea and thought it was about time I stopped being lazy and get on and write something.

After spending the last few years on the other side of the world I recently arrived home to jolly old England. It was all a little strange at first arriving back in London and then jumping in the cab to Nottingham. You see so much when you travel, the scenery is constantly changing and the feeling of time away from home is always exaggerated so when you arrive home it’s a shock to see that everything seems to be the same as when you had left.

I’ve settled back into the normal life at home now. No more adventures across the Australian outback but instead down to the shop to buy the Sunday newspaper. Shopping in familiar supermarkets like Sainsbury’s rather than the IGA or Coles like in Melbourne. I do have to admit though that I love coming home, for me coming home after a long trip is just as exciting as going on the trip in the first place. Boring my friends with stories of trekking across New Zealand or being in a road accident in the Australian bush is a real highlight, for me that is, not for them.

What’s next? Much quicker than expected I am already thinking ahead to my next trip. I’m not sure where yet but the ideas are already flowing, so much so that I am having very restless nights thinking about all the possible countries I may visit. I know I want to do a trip through Europe probably next summer around May, I had already thought about an adventure across Eastern Europe and maybe trying to write a book about it but then recently Michael Palin released his new series on the region which made me think twice as there is what’s called the ‘Palin effect’ which is when he releases his TV series, the next tourist season in that region explodes with visitors, which to be honest puts me off a little.

I am also turning my mind to some other projects in between my travels. I would love to run a marathon for charity as I have never done this before and would also like to take on a long bike ride maybe something ridiculous like London to the Arctic or something like that, again for charity. Watch this space.

Currently I am writing up my diaries and going through my pictures of the latest trip through the Australian Outback which was stunning. I have so many notes that it will take me a few weeks to get it typed up. I have also had the map of Britain out as I’m now determined to get out a see this beautiful Island. It’s hard to believe that the furthest north I have been is Blackpool, Shameful!!!

Well I hope you have enjoyed checking out my blog for the past twelve months as today Corbett’s Travels is a year old! It’s been a lot of fun working on the site and It's been very nice hearing from you kind people that have taken the time to visit.

Well I have to go now as I have to crack open a coconut……….

Happy Travels,
